ok i tried changing the door sound from 162(wooden door open)to 164(metal door open) and the sound worked. so now my only problem is figuring out why sound 162 doesn't do anything despite being the sfx that was used in the video tutorial. u dont get to see the door work and make a sound in the video. it goes right from making the door, skips testing it and goes right into making a teleporter. keep in mind that the main games levels work normally including wooden door-like sounds(not sure if 162 is being used or not in the main game).
There's a couple sfx that don't really work.. 162 may have been one of them and I perhaps changed it with or without showing the change... I know that's not overly helpful lol. Keep in mind when I was learning how to map I had no tutorial videos and basically no community to ask questions, it was hard heh.

i really don't recommend using SWPBuild to play your levels though. I just use SWPBuild for building, then I use BuildGDX to play/test the levels with better looking graphics than the original Shadow Warrior.

the only thing that sux about that is that i have to move a copy of the map over to the directory that i have BuildGDX in. I keep SWPBuild in its own working directory seperate from my main Shadow Warrior Directory.I basically have 3 or 4 copies installed in different directories. My SWPBuild Directory is just for Building.

I realize that when you make the underwater area you change the palette with Alt-P to make it all look blue tinted, however this is not necessary because the "Sect_Underwater" ST1 sprite is already set to make it look and sound like your'e underwater by default. Why would you change the palette if it's already going to look blue? was that just to make the user aware that they can change it and how to do it? or was it something you were unaware of at the time? or did it not do it automatically in that particular version of SWPBuild?

another big question about the first video when your teaching us about moving sector objects(the square sector that moves with a rocket launcher ontop of it in the video)you show us everything we need to do but completely leave out the part about how to setup the track? I'm sure i can probably figure it out, but i was just curious why you didnt go over the track.
Hmm, find those blue number sprites in the texture set and find them in the spritags.txt also to learn how to tag them... each track needs atleast 2 track sprites, a start and a stop.
I remember I had to make an adjustment in the video around there because I had made a mistake somewhere.. again this is 8 years ago I made those videos and haven't mapped for 6 of them, the knowledge is getting alittle rusty.

For anyone else reading this, The answer to the problem was that there are a couple of sounds in shadow warrior that don't work. sound 162 is one of them so don't use it. For the tutorial just use sound 164.

i do want to test whether or not you really need to mark a start and end track sprite. i would assume the start would be the closest and the end would be the furthest matching track sprite. it would save a little bit of time if they can work that way especially if its a simpler kind of track as opposed to a larger loop or something.
browneyebilly: is it expensive to keep this site up and running Robman?

browneyebilly: it would seem you are helping to preserve a lot of the stuff for the custom SW community
May 19, 2023 20:07:37 GMT -5
Robman: Nah, this is hosted for free, just my time creating and moderating and maintaining is involved. I think this version of the forum was made in 2005. The SWC website in 1999.

Robman: If some months it's ad free here, I'd have paid for that. And yes, I loved SW so have enjoyed unofficially playing and supporting it for 25 ish years.

Mxrtxn: browneyebilly, hi there, I just wrote a reply so you can insert your voxels into the game. I just happen to check this site after many months and saw your question. I am mostly a voxel artist so to speak any doubts about map making "per se" are better
May 22, 2023 19:53:26 GMT -5
Mxrtxn: replied by Robman, due to the fact that he has made many many maps, even a MOD for Shadow Warrior. By the way, there´s a discord of this community too. Take care and good luck.

Mxrtxn: Brownney you can´t take palette file directly to magicavoxel that´s why I used that screnshot of the colors when using magicavoxel. In Slab6 is were you do the real conversion of the colors of the voxel using the pallete file of SW.

browneyebilly: hey Robman do u have a list of all the shadow warrior stuff you've finished working on and released? I'd love to check out any of thew single player stuff you may have made.
May 28, 2023 21:47:41 GMT -5
Robman: The SWC20 addon has pretty much most of it, found on the maps page.

zillamook: Does the download of the deadly kiss assets include the maps from both Joe Wilcox and Crista Forest's data?
Jul 18, 2023 11:58:19 GMT -5
Robman: I have no idea
Jul 18, 2023 13:27:28 GMT -5
Robman: But it's available over at rtcm
Jul 18, 2023 13:28:26 GMT -5
zillamook: It looks to be only the data shared by Joe earlier than the 30 maps from Crista, which is unfortunate. There were 30 other maps apparently.
Jul 18, 2023 15:30:02 GMT -5
zillamook: Oh well, it's good that DK is available in any form. Just basic interpretation skills easily show that the "restoration project" post indicates how low of priority the project has been from the first minute.
Jul 18, 2023 15:30:50 GMT -5
zillamook: Meaning they'll sit on the thing while working on 2+ year long DLCs, after which they'll put other things ahead in priority anyway.
Jul 18, 2023 15:32:09 GMT -5
Robman: It's definitely good that SW fans have access If you're a fan... you're niche enough and withholding content is very poor taste.
Jul 18, 2023 16:05:41 GMT -5
zillamook: Yep. And hopefully one of the stooges sitting on the other assets will wake up one day and release the other assets.

nutella2006: Hello, does anyone know where I can install the SWP editor?
