by the way, mabe i'm just imagining this but it appears that if I run swpbuild in compatibility mode for windows xp sp3 it runs better and shading with the plus and minus keys works now for me.

ok i tried changing the door sound from 162(wooden door open)to 164(metal door open) and the sound worked. so now my only problem is figuring out why sound 162 doesn't do anything despite being the sfx that was used in the video tutorial. u dont get to see the door work and make a sound in the video. it goes right from making the door, skips testing it and goes right into making a teleporter. keep in mind that the main games levels work normally including wooden door-like sounds(not sure if 162 is being used or not in the main game).

There's a couple sfx that don't really work.. 162 may have been one of them and I perhaps changed it with or without showing the change... I know that's not overly helpful lol. Keep in mind when I was learning how to map I had no tutorial videos and basically no community to ask questions, it was hard heh.

you had just the .txt files included with the game and that was it. It was the same way for me when i first learned how to use the duke nukem3d Build Editor.

i really don't recommend using SWPBuild to play your levels though. I just use SWPBuild for building, then I use BuildGDX to play/test the levels with better looking graphics than the original Shadow Warrior.

To each their own, just easy because it auto launches swp out of swpbuild to test and return back to building quick.

yeah i do most of my quick little tests from inside swpbuild but when i do the longer play tests i do it from buildGDX. I loooove SWPBuild by the way. I cant say that enough! thank you

the only thing that sux about that is that i have to move a copy of the map over to the directory that i have BuildGDX in. I keep SWPBuild in its own working directory seperate from my main Shadow Warrior Directory.I basically have 3 or 4 copies installed in different directories. My SWPBuild Directory is just for Building.

I realize that when you make the underwater area you change the palette with Alt-P to make it all look blue tinted, however this is not necessary because the "Sect_Underwater" ST1 sprite is already set to make it look and sound like your'e underwater by default. Why would you change the palette if it's already going to look blue? was that just to make the user aware that they can change it and how to do it? or was it something you were unaware of at the time? or did it not do it automatically in that particular version of SWPBuild?

i'll have to try it out to see if it really looks different. there is something in my brain that may remember vaguely that i used to do that when i made custom duke3d levels

another big question about the first video when your teaching us about moving sector objects(the square sector that moves with a rocket launcher ontop of it in the video)you show us everything we need to do but completely leave out the part about how to setup the track? I'm sure i can probably figure it out, but i was just curious why you didnt go over the track.

Hmm, find those blue number sprites in the texture set and find them in the spritags.txt also to learn how to tag them... each track needs atleast 2 track sprites, a start and a stop.
I remember I had to make an adjustment in the video around there because I had made a mistake somewhere.. again this is 8 years ago I made those videos and haven't mapped for 6 of them, the knowledge is getting alittle rusty.

For anyone else reading this, The answer to the problem was that there are a couple of sounds in shadow warrior that don't work. sound 162 is one of them so don't use it. For the tutorial just use sound 164.

i do want to test whether or not you really need to mark a start and end track sprite. i would assume the start would be the closest and the end would be the furthest matching track sprite. it would save a little bit of time if they can work that way especially if its a simpler kind of track as opposed to a larger loop or something.
