Here's a list of the programs I use to make maps, tinker with sound files/ edit art etc..
My overall preference is to use SWP 4.3.2 and occasionally dos SW for initially launching/playing the game.
SWPbuild v1.2 to create the maps. It's alittle glitchy and you can't input negative numbers into this version but since I've come to know it, it's grown on me.
If I have to re-size an entire map, I load the map into mapster32 and use the map resize function. I've found duke maps are approx. 38% smaller than Lo-Wang's world.
When there's .ART file editing to be done, I've recently used M210's Build Art Files Editor v1.14 and found it to be really useful. Allowed me to somewhat easily add art to sw from other build games and some custom art, animations and all.
To convert a duke3d map to Sw I use Swconv.exe, you lose all of the effects and texture/sprite placement but the overall map design is there. I then resize the map with mapster32('f), 38% bigger of course. I'm pretty sure the other Duke to Sw converter listed on the files/links page works fine also. You'll need dos or dosbox for swconv.exe.
To convert sound effects to the proper .voc format I use Goldwave.
Extracting and compiling .GRP files is fast and easy with Xgroup/Kextract v1.4 which runs fine in Windows.
I use the Shadow Warrior High Resolution Pack however I edit it to only use the sky boxes because they look great but the rest of it for the most part I can do without.
The Wad 2 Duke map converter worked great for converting doom and heretic maps to build format. This program actually converts the maps into somewhat playable versions for duke3d surprisingly, however you'll need to then convert that map to the SW format where you'll lose all the effects and textures. You also have to then resize the map so the whole ordeal is a small chore but it works. You'll also need dosbox for wad 2 duke, old programs ya know.
That's it for now I guess.
Do you make Build Engine maps and mods? Let's hear what programs you use and why you use them.
